Tooi Kono Machide / In This Distant Town
Naomi Kaiya

Cardcaptor Sakura

My favorite song is on this old tape
with small scratches and a faded title.
And dawn comes and the day begins, bringing the summer breeze.
I can’t get used to this sudden loneliness I feel in my usual life
Even wherever I go on my bike,
I never forget how fast the wind goes by.

La la la la utaou sora wo miagete
La la la la it’s my life aruiteyukou
Watashi no chikara de susumu hateshinai kono michi wo

La la la la - Let’s look up to the sky and sing!
La la la la - It’s my life. I’ll keep walking it.
With my own strength, I make my way in this endless town.

Ikutsumo no kousaten itsumo mayou kedo
Nagasaretari oikosaretari shite ima wo ikiteru
Butsukaru koto mitomeru koto
Otona ni natte mo wasurenai

Even though I always get lost at countless intersections
I’m living in the present, but the moving crowd gets ahead of me sometimes.
Things that I bump into, things that I recognize,
I never forget them even when I’ve become an adult.

La la la la utaou sora wo miagete
La la la la it’s my life aruiteyukou
Watashi dake no mono dakara jishin motte ii yo ne

La la la la - Let’s look up to the sky and sing!
La la la la - It’s my life. I’ll keep walking it.
Because it belongs to me alone, I should be confident.

Umareta machi de yume mitekita
Kujikeru tabi ni omoidasu
Ano uta no you ni ima dekiru koto wa
Sukoshi demo mae ni fumidasu koto

I’ve had this dream in my hometown
I think of it when I’m discouraged.
Just like what the song told me, what I can do now
is to take just a small step forward.

La la la la utaou sora wo miagete
La la la la it’s my life aruiteyukou
La la la la utaou sora wo miagete
La la la la it’s my life aruiteyukou
Watashi no chikara de susumu hateshinai kono michi wo

La la la la - Let’s look up to the sky and sing!
La la la la - It’s my life. I’ll keep walking it.
La la la la - Let’s look up to the sky and sing!
La la la la - It’s my life. I’ll keep walking it.
With my own strength, I make my way in this endless town.

commentary: two things about this song. 1. it is not "too slow" (slow songs are cool! more people need to appreciate them, yupyup) and 2. the title is not, not, not, not "it's my life". someday I will kill the idiot who decided to rename all the CCS songs with the only english words in them. >__< anyway.. as for me, i love this song. it's so pretty and flowing and stuff.. i love the lyrics, too, they're really cool. some of them I wrote down myself from my fansub of the first movie cause the translation site's translation made no sense at all. btw, this is the CCS first movie theme song.

Waiting for the Wheel to Turn
Karen Matheson (of Capèrçaillie)

Women of the World: Celtic

Living in a place with time
Living in a place where reality is
Standing on a big broad line
Watching it all go by
Ah, but you're talking it all away
the music, the tongue and the old refrains
You're coming here to play
and you're pulling the roots from a dying age

Remember the Buachaille Mor
reaching for the skies from the barren shores
Watching over the village of burns
and counting the days since the gael kept home
but the stranger claims it now
sitting like a king with his gold from the south
don't you see the waves of wealth
washing away the soul from the land

Chorus

Here comes the Clearances my friend
silently our history is coming to life again
We feel the breeze from the storm to come
and up and down this coast
we're waiting for the wheel to turn

Free were the fields of fern
Free was the fishing in the coves of care
empty are the horns of gold
empty for the sake of summer's cause
Yes, you're talking it all away
the music, the tongue and the old refrains
You're coming here to play
and you're pulling the roots from a dying age

Commentary: OooooOooooHHH I loooove this song!! This is possibly my favorite song right now. Anywho, it's sung by a Scottish band called Capèrçaillie, and the lead singer is Karen Matheson. This song was recorded over 10 years ago for their album Delirium, and then for the Celtic compilation album from which I first heard this song they used a live version. It's even better and more full of life than the original. If you look at the lyrics you will see that they form kind of anthem for Scotland. In the tradition of Celtic music, they tell a story, and that is of the suppression and gradual resurfacing of Scottish culture and the hardships thorugh which the Scots had to suffer. I like lyrics with meaning. :) This song is mainly English with some Scots-Gaelic background vocals, but other songs by Capèrçaillie are purely in Scots-Gaelic. The musical energy really flows through it, too. Anyway, check out this song, I think it will appeal to a lot of tastes.
next lyrics to expect from Mon-chan: Again by Lenny Kravitz.
